Brighton is located at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon, less than 35 minutes southeast of downtown Salt Lake City and about 35 miles from Salt Lake International Airport. Brighton is most revered for its devotion to mountain activities, namely skiing and snowboarding. You wont find fancy accommodations with lavish amenities here, but you will find inexpensive lodging, excellent mountain conditions and a qualified staff eager to assist you in your activities.
What started with one rope tow in 1936 now has become a world-class mountain resort offering a wide variety of terrain covered by an incredible amount of snow. Brighton's three high-speed quad, one triple, and three double chair lifts provide access to a mountain suitable for all types of skiers and snowboarders. Most of Brighton's seven lifts access all types of runs, making it easy for groups to ride the lift together and still meet at the bottom. For more adventurous expert skiers and snowboarders, Brighton's lifts, via their open boundary policy, provide virtually unlimited access to some of the best backcountry in Utah. In addition, Brighton features a raging terrain park, complete with halfpipe.
Being located in Big Cottonwood Canyon, Brighton receives over 500 inches of 'the greatest snow on earth' each season. For powder skiing and snowboarding Brighton is difficult to beat. With over 66 runs on two mountains, the longest (Elk Park Ridge) being over 3 miles, there are plenty of fresh tracks to be had. Brighton also grooms about 70-percent of their runs each night, leaving behind some of the best corduroy in the state. Base elevation of the mountain is 8,755 feet, with the summit (Clayton's at Great Western) peaking at 10,500 feet. Vertical elevation is 1,745 feet.
The Brighton Ski School is offers various types of instruction and programs for skiers and snowboarders of all ages and abilities, ranging from private lessons, to group lessons, to night lessons. And the Brighton Mountain Sports equipment and rental shop offers a wide array of name-brand clothing and equipment, whether it be renting skis and boots or purchasing Brighton souvenirs.
The Brighton Lodge offers a continental breakfast, large outdoor Jacuzzi, common area with fireplace and microwave, and a big screen TV/VCR (in common area) with each room. All rooms are equipped with refrigerators, except hostels. Brighton also offers three slopeside dining choices. The Alpine Rose provides cafeteria-style dining, while Molly Green's is a full-service private club (membership easily attained at front desk of lodge). And the Brighton Chalet is a good place to grab a quick bite while skiing Mt. Millicent.
